NYT: Britain May Drop Objections to ICC Arrest Warrant for Netanyahu

WASHINGTON, July 25 British Prime Minister Keir Starmer may drop the previous government's objections to International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Khan's demand to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by the end of this week, the New York Times reported, citing sources.
«Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to drop the previous government's objections to the ICC prosecutor's demand to issue an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by the end of this week, two sources familiar with the government's deliberations said,» the newspaper wrote.

In May, the ICC prosecutor announced that he was filing an application with the pre-trial chamber to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant. In his statement, he noted that they were responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity that were committed since October 2023. In late June, it became known that the ICC pre-trial tribunal had postponed its decision on whether to issue these arrest warrants.

The British parliamentary elections were held on July 4, with the Labor Party winning 412 seats, securing an absolute majority in parliament and ousting the previously ruling Conservatives. The next day, Labor leader Starmer officially became the 58th Prime Minister of Great Britain.
