Luxury minivan LEVC L380 from Geely hits the market in four versions

The British company LEVC, owned by the Chinese holding Geely, began selling the large electric minivan L380 in China. It is currently available with a 6- or 8-seater cabin and a single- or dual-motor electric powertrain.

The Geely holding created the LEVC company in 2013, formerly it was called the London Taxi Company. Until recently, LEVC was a niche manufacturer of plug-in hybrid TX taxis and VN5 platform vans, using Volvo components and assemblies in their design. LEVC TX and LEVC VN5 are sold mainly in the UK, but there are also left-hand drive versions for continental Europe and some Asian countries.

At the beginning of last year, the management of the Geely holding decided to turn LEVC into a large global commercial brand with a wide range of models. The first-born of the new model range was the L380 minivan on the SOA (Space Oriented Architecture) modular platform developed specifically for LEVC, which uses some elements of the SEA platform, well known from the passenger models of the Geely holding. The LEVC L380 is produced in China and sales began here today, and outside the Middle Kingdom the spectacular minivan will appear later — for example, in the UK it is expected only by 2026.

The LEVC L380 received its name in honor of the famous wide-body passenger aircraft Airbus A380, although at the announcement stage the minivan was also called the Xspace — perhaps this name is being saved for export markets. There is not only a superficial similarity between the L380 minivan and the A380 aircraft: the minivan’s developers claim that the level of comfort in the LEVC L380 passenger seats corresponds to the first class of the Airbus A380 aircraft, but this is obviously true for versions that have six or fewer seats in the cabin, and in the most spacious 8-seater version, of course, you shouldn’t expect any airplane space. The photographs show only the 6-seater version; the manufacturer is hiding the 8-seater version for now, but is accepting orders for it. In the future, especially luxurious versions with three and four seats in the cabin are also promised.

The richly equipped 6-seater version of the minivan has a panoramic transparent roof with an area of 2.18 m2 and a powerful Yamaha audio system (14 speakers). The seats in the second and third rows are installed on common longitudinal rails 1.9 m long; these seats can be moved back and forth and thus customize the interior configuration. All seats are equipped with a ventilation and heating system, the seats of the second and third rows also have built-in massagers, and passengers of the second row also have individual entertainment monitors (attached to the backs of the front seats) and service screens in the armrests.
