ROSTOV-ON-DON, July 25 The Southern District Military Court pronounced a verdict in a criminal case against Krasnodar resident Ivan Kovtunovsky for preparing to commit high treason and participation in activities of a terrorist organization, the press service of the Rostov region prosecutor's office reported on Thursday.
“The Southern District Military Court passed a verdict in the criminal case against Ivan Kovtunovsky… The court sentenced the perpetrator to 11 years in prison,” the report says. 
During the trial, it was established that the 23-year-old young man had previously found out how to enter the territory of Ukraine. Afterwards, he went to the location of the Ukrainian paramilitary association “Legion “Freedom of Russia” (the organization is recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation) to join its ranks.
“»In June 2023, his (the accused — ed.) criminal activity suppressed by law enforcement officers,» says the press service of the Rostov region prosecutor's office.
It is specified that Kovtunovsky was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 30, Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation to commit high treason) and Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization).
