The defendant in the Moscow car bombing case will soon be placed in pretrial detention

MOSCOW, July 26 Evgeny Serebryakov, a defendant in the case of the car bombing in northern Moscow, is under arrest and is to be placed in a pretrial detention facility for two months in the near future, according to a ruling made earlier by one of the capital's courts.
On the evening of July 24, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow chose a preventive measure for Serebryakov in the form of detention for a period of two months from the moment of detention in the territory of the Russian Federation or extradition. This was preceded by the filing of charges in absentia, as well as an international wanted list.

The FSB previously reported that Serebryakov was detained in Bodrum, Turkey, and was brought to Russia on July 26. The agency clarified that the accused was taken to the Investigative Committee for further investigative actions in the criminal case.

As lawyer Alexander Boykov, interviewed as an expert, explained, the period of arrest of the person involved is calculated from the moment of actual detention in a foreign country and the selection of a preventive measure by the court of that country.
“He remains arrested, he simply changes jurisdiction when crossing the border,” said the agency’s interlocutor.
He also stressed that the situation with Serebryakov should be called extradition, not deportation, since deportation implies a violation of the law of the host country.

On Wednesday morning, two people were injured in a car explosion in the courtyard of a building on Sinyavinskaya Street in northern Moscow. According to the Russian Interior Ministry, an unidentified object placed in the car detonated. The case has been transferred to the first department for investigating especially important cases of the capital's main Investigative Committee. The Zamoskvoretsky Court reported that Yevgeny Serebryakov, a defendant in the Moscow car bombing case, has been charged in absentia.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on Wednesday that Serebryakov had been detained in Bodrum. Turkish media later clarified that another person had been detained with him, but his name was not specified. The attacker entered Turkey as a tourist, and was not on the wanted list at the time, a source in the Turkish Interior Ministry said earlier.
