The Chinese company has launched sales of its new crossover. The five-door is offered as a plug-in hybrid, and it has three battery options.
A model named Song L joined the BYD line last year and belongs to the Dynasty series. The electric five-door with a coupe-like silhouette is officially considered a crossover, although it looks more like an overgrown hatchback. But now customers have access to the BYD Song L with a body more familiar to the SUV segment; in addition, it has a different filling: sales of a rechargeable hybrid with the brand’s new generation DM-i system have just started in China. Note that there are several more SUVs on the “celestial” market with the name Song — they have the Pro and Plus prefixes, but these are completely different cars (Pluses are completely included in the Ocean line).

The BYD Song L DM-i got similar headlights with LED «boomerangs» of running lights and a single strip of rear lights, while the lights of the hybrid have their own design. The bumpers are original. The crossover also received an impressive radiator grille and retractable door handles. The SUV «stands» on 19-inch wheels.
The length of the Song L DM-i is 4780 mm, the width is 1898 mm, the height is 1670 mm, the wheelbase is 2782 mm. Thus, in terms of its dimensions, the SUV is not far from the Chinese stretched Volkswagen Tiguan L Pro of the new generation. But the coupe-like purely electric BYD Song L is larger than both (length — 4840 mm, distance between axles — 2930 mm).

The hybrid SUV has its own five-seat interior, but it is decorated in a style typical of other modern BYD models. There are separate screens for the instrument panel (10.25 inches) and the multimedia system (12.8 or 15.6 inches, the tablet can be turned over), and a “crystal” box selector. Trunk volume is 459 liters, with the second row folded this figure will increase to 1550 liters.

The list of equipment of the cheapest SUV includes all-round cameras and cruise control. The DM-i installation includes a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with a capacity of 101 hp and a 218-horsepower electric motor. The drive is front-wheel drive only. The basic SUV is equipped with a 12.9 kWh battery, the «medium» versions received an 18.3 kWh battery. The richest versions of the BYD Song L DM-i have a 26.6 kWh battery. On electric power alone, the crossover will be able to travel 75, 112 or 160 km, respectively (according to the CLTC cycle).

BYD Price Song L DM-i ranges from 135,800 to 175,800 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 1.6 million — 2.06 million rubles at the current exchange rate. For comparison, the electric crossover BYD Song L costs from 189,800 yuan (2.2 million rubles). Well, the above-mentioned new VW Tiguan L Pro is now available only with an internal combustion engine, priced from 236,800 yuan (2.8 million rubles).
