Moscow City Court sentences Ukrainian journalist Fakhrudin Sharafmal to 7 years in prison in absentia for a speech on air calling for the killing of Russians

The Moscow City Court sentenced Ukrainian journalist Fakhrudin Sharafmal in absentia to seven years in a general regime penal colony in the case of incitement to hatred, calls for extremism, as requested by the prosecution. This was reported by a Mediazona correspondent from the courtroom.

According to investigators, on March 15, 2022, Sharafmal publicly called on Ukrainians to mass kill “citizens of the Russian Federation, including children,” on the Ukrainian Channel 24.

«He based his calls on the ideology of Nazi criminals, including Adolf Eichmann, whose image he showed on air,» the Investigative Committee said in a press release.

The day after the broadcast, on March 16, 2022, Sharafmal apologized for his words. «I apologize, because it was unacceptable from a journalist's point of view and from a human point of view,» he said.

In the winter of 2024, Mediazona learned that the journalist had been put on the wanted list and arrested in absentia. In April 2022, he was added to the Rosfinmonitoring list of extremists and terrorists.
