Ukraine has stated that there may not be enough money for military salaries, since they were not included in the budget, RT reports.
The statement by the head of the budget committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Roksolana Pidlasa underlines the complexity of the current situation. According to her, when forming the military budget for the fall, funds were not allocated for paying salaries to security forces. This means that, given the acute budget deficit observed in the country, it is necessary to urgently make changes to ensure funding for the military.
Pidlasa noted that when drawing up the budget, funds for salaries were «rearranged» in favor of purchasing weapons and military equipment. This decision may have been dictated by the need to build up defense potential, but it created a critical situation with the financing of military personnel. In order to ensure the payment of salaries at the end of September, amendments to the budget must be adopted and signed by the middle of the month.
Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Oleksiy Sobolev recently stated that the authorities must look for alternative sources of funding to maintain macroeconomic stability and ensure funding for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). One of the proposed solutions is the sale of about 20 state-owned companies. The decision could help raise much-needed funds, but it also raises questions about the long-term impact on the country's economy.
