Iran Asks Airlines to Avoid Its Airspace, Media Reports

CAIRO, Aug. 7 Iranian authorities have asked airlines to avoid the country's airspace, the Egyptian TV channel Extra News reported, citing a source in Egypt's Ministry of Civil Aviation.
«The Iranian authorities have issued a notice to avoid flights in the airspace due to military exercises,» the TV channel's source said.

He clarified that the notice was sent to all civilian airlines in the world.

As The New York Times reported last week, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has ordered a direct strike on Israel in response to the assassination of Hamas Politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
The assassination of the head of the Hamas Politburo reported on July 31 that Haniyeh was killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran, where he had arrived to attend the inauguration of the new Iranian president. The Palestinian movement blamed Tel Aviv and Washington for the murder and promised that the attack would not go unanswered.

IDF representatives, in turn, said that they were not responding to media reports about Haniyeh's murder, and Israeli ministers, according to The Jerusalem Post, were instructed not to speak out on the matter.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov called the death of the Hamas Politburo chief an absolutely unacceptable political assassination that threatens further escalation in the region.
