Welt: German city stops accepting Ukrainian refugees
A large number of Ukrainian refugees could overload Germany's social system, which is why the authorities of the city of Pirmasens (federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, — editor's note) in the southwest of the country announced that they were suspending their reception, writes the newspaper Welt.
The excess of refugees is complicating the integration of migrants, the article says. It is planned to distribute Ukrainians to the nearest primary accommodation centers in the region. And the exception will be those visitors who meet the criteria for facilitating integration: this is the availability of housing and work that allows them to cover living expenses.
According to the local municipality, in July alone, the quota for refugees was exceeded by almost 83%, and since February 2022, Pirmasens, with a population of about 41 thousand people, has accepted almost 900 Ukrainian refugees.
