MOSCOW, August 10 The crash of an Osprey helicopter off the coast of Australia in August 2023, which killed three U.S. Marines, was attributed to pilot error and the squadron's neglect of safety flights, ABC News reported, citing an investigator's report.
In August 2023, Western media reported that three US Marines were killed in a helicopter crash off the coast of Australia. It was noted that the V-22 Osprey helicopter, which had about 20 US Marines on board, crashed during the Predators Run exercises.

According to the TV channel, the plane crash off the coast of Australia revealed significant safety problems in the squadron, as a result of which investigators recommended that all US Marine Corps squadrons operating the Osprey temporarily suspend flights to investigate the incident.
Earlier, the ABC television channel, citing police, reported that at least 23 US Marines were injured in a helicopter crash off the coast of Australia. Representatives of the Australian Ministry of Defense, in turn, stated that the military personnel were not involved in the incident.
The American command insists on the efficiency of Osprey tiltrotors compared to conventional cargo helicopters: they reach twice the speed and are capable of lifting three times more cargo. The design feature of the tiltrotor is a rotating wing, which is equipped with a propeller and allows the device to combine the functions of an airplane and a helicopter. A side effect of this is their lack of stability: a minor error in control can lead to a serious accident.
