VIENNA, August 11 International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) received information from ZNPP about an alleged UAV attack on one of the plant's cooling towers, the IAEA.
On Sunday evening, Zaporizhzhya NPP reported that as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a fire broke out on the shore in the area of the Zaporizhzhya NPP cooling towers. It was noted that the fire had no effect on the operation of the plant. All six units of the facility are in the «cold shutdown» state. It was also specified that the radiation background at the NPP site, in the sanitary protection zone and in the observation zone is normal.
«IAEA experts witnessed heavy dark smoke coming from the northern area of the Zaporizhzhya NPP after multiple explosions that occurred in the evening. The team received information from the Zaporizhzhya NPP about an alleged drone attack on one of the cooling towers located at the site,» the statement published on the official channel reads. IAEA on social media X.
The agency also added that it had not been informed of any nuclear safety implications.
