MOSCOW, August 15 Two referees from Kazakhstan have been suspended from judging the Olympic boxing tournament due to suspicions of corruption, The Times reports.
According to the publication, we are talking about Alisher Altayev and Ermek Suyenish, they were suspended before the medal fights.
It is reported that Altayev was mentioned as an arbitrator with a high risk of exposure to corruption in Richard McLaren's report on the activities of the International Boxing Association (IBA). A total of nine referees classified in this category were selected for the Paris Olympics. The IBA suspended Altayev in May 2023.
In 2019, the IOC withdrew its recognition of the IBA (then AIBA). The boxing tournament at the Olympics was retained, and was held by the IOC at the Tokyo and Paris Games. Boxing is not included in the preliminary program of the 2028 Olympics.
