SARATOV, August 16 Investigators have begun checking information about the pollution of a river with the death of fish in the city of Atkarsk in the Saratov Region, allegedly due to the improper operation of the treatment facilities of a local enterprise, the Information Center of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported on its Telegram channel.
«A resident of the Saratov region contacted us. She reported that in August of this year, as a result of improper operation of the treatment facilities at one of the enterprises in the city of Atkarsk, processed products got into the Atkarka River. The water turned white and acquired a pungent odor. In addition, local residents recorded a fish kill. Citizens fear a deterioration in the environmental situation in the settlement… The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Saratov Region has launched a procedural investigation,» the report says.
It is specified that the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, has put the investigation into the complaint about the violation of environmental legislation under control and instructed the head of the regional department of the agency to submit a report on its interim results and the decision taken as a result.
