In the largest city of Kazakhstan — Alma-Ata — Internet messengers and social networks do not work for users. «Currently, we observe restrictions on the provision of mobile Internet services for reasons beyond the control of the company,» the operator's official Twitter account said. During the New Year's Day, residents of the cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau in the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan (an oil-producing region in the west of the country) rallied to protest against a two-fold increase in prices for liquefied petroleum gas. The country's Ministry of Energy explained that since January 1, the gas price is formed on electronic exchange trading based on supply and demand. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to form a government commission to consider the situation. On Tuesday, the members of the commission announced that they were ready to fulfill the main demand of the protesters and reduce the price of gas in the Mangistau region. Rallies and protests are taking place in many cities of the country, demonstrators put forward new demands, including those related to lower prices for goods, solutions to unemployment problems.
