The Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sentenced Vyacheslav Igumnov to a protest action on January 23 to five years in a general regime colony. This was reported by the press service of the court.
Igumnov was found guilty of hooliganism and the use of violence against a government official (part 2 of article 213, part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, during a protest action on January 23, Igumnov, being near Bolshaya Dmitrovka Street in Moscow, lit a fire and threw it at the police. The defendant pleaded guilty and repented.
A representative of the state prosecution requested eight years in prison for Igumnov during the debate in the Tverskoy District Court of Moscow.
In Russian cities on January 23 and 31, as well as on February 2 and April 21 last year, rallies were held in support of the politician Alexei Navalny. During the rallies, thousands of people were detained, hundreds of protesters were sent under administrative arrest. In connection with the protests this year, the security forces opened more than a hundred criminal cases.
