File photoMOSCOW, Jan 15 More than a hundred families have been evacuated to Samoa from villages on the south side of Savaii Island due to large waves hitting the coast as a result of a volcanic eruption in the Tonga Islands, local radio station Eyespy reported. Earlier, the Matangi Tonga news portal reported on the eruption of the Hunga Haapai volcano in the South Pacific island nation of Tonga. Authorities have issued a tsunami warning. A tsunami threat has also been declared in American Samoa. «Waves hit (the island of) Sawaii while more than 100 families reported being evacuated. Huge waves are reported to have hit the coastline and caused some damage to homes in Palauli and Satupaytea» , the radio said.
