The Second Court of Cassation in Moscow upheld the verdict of all defendants in the New Greatness* case convicted of creating an extremist community (Part 1, Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code). The prosecution demanded that the cassation appeals of the defense and defendants in the New Greatness case be left unsatisfied, and the sentence unchanged.
The defenders in the cassation complaints stressed that the motives of the convicts, pointed out by the Lublin District Court, had not been established and proven. According to the note to Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code, extremist crimes are committed solely on the basis of hatred or enmity.
In addition, the lawyers stated that there were provocations and illegal operational-search activities in the New Greatness case. Anna Pavlikova's lawyer Olga Karlova demanded punishment for «infiltrated agents». Maria Dubovik's lawyer, Tatyana Okushko, also stressed that the adversarial principle was violated in the trial.
