Archival photoMOSCOW, Jan. 19Vladivostok will remain the main venue for the Eastern Economic Forum for the foreseeable future, Alexei Chekunkov, head of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East, told RIA Novosti. Earlier, Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Mikhail Degtyarev proposed holding the forum in other cities of the Far East , in particular, in Khabarovsk. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Degtyarev said that the region would be ready to apply for the WEF by 2024-2025. Chekunkov told RIA Novosti that in the future the Eastern Economic Forum could be held at several venues, including outside of Vladivostok. Deputy Prime Minister, presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev also noted that in the future, with the expansion of the EEF, it is possible to open additional sites.
"Vladivostok will remain the main site of the EEF in the foreseeable future. However, like all the world's leading economic forums, the WEF holds additional visiting sessions, which can take place anywhere in the Far East. Whether it's a city, an island, a ship,» Chekunkov said.
The minister noted that the topic of tourism could be discussed in Kamchatka or on the shores of Lake Baikal. Chekunkov added.
