Human rights activist Vladimir Taranenko said that in the Kemerovo pre-trial detention center he was given bags instead of shoes

In the Kemerovo SIZO-1, the coordinator of the Siberia Legal project, Vladimir Taranenko, is forced to walk with plastic bags on his feet, since he is not given shoes. The man told about this during the court session, the video was published by the Kuzbass Incident telegram channel.

“I took off my shoes, took off my socks, took off my shorts, took everything off — that's what they gave me. I am not notified that a parcel [with shoes] has arrived, since I am in a punishment cell. They haven’t been released for the fifth month,” Taranenko shared.

The man also spoke about the details of being in the punishment cell. According to Taranenko, in the room where he is kept, he was forced to cover the window with garbage bags due to the fact that the window mechanism was broken.

Taranenko and another coordinator of the Siberia Legal project, Dmitry Kamynin, were arrested in February last year in the case of extortion (part 2 of article 163 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, they extorted 20,000 rubles from a resident of Kemerovo.

In June 2020, Taranenko and Kamynin published an article about the torture and beatings of prisoners in correctional colonies No. 5, No. 22, and No. 37 of the Kemerovo Region. In response to the publication, the administration of the IK filed a lawsuit against human rights activists in court for the protection of honor.
