RIO DE JANEIRO, Jan 20 Brazilian singer, ex-wife of football player Garrincha Elsa Suares passed away on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, her spokeswoman said. «It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the death of singer and composer Elsa Suares, aged 91, at 3:45 p.m. at her home in Rio de Janeiro, which occurred due to natural causes,» the statement said. An icon of Brazilian music, a laureate and multiple Latin Grammy nominee, in 1999 Suares was named «Voice of the Millennium» by the British BBC Radio. Since 1960, Suares has released 37 studio albums and singles , the last of which, Planeta Fome, was released in 2019.
