MOSCOW, Jan 27 Spartak Moscow forward Jake Virtanen has been charged with sexual assault, according to TSN, citing the Vancouver Police Department. The charge was brought as a result of an investigation into an incident that occurred in September 2017, when Virtanen played for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League (NHL). The investigation began in May last year when a woman who wished to remain anonymous for fear of backlash accused Virtanen of sexual harassment — after which Vancouver sent the Canadian hockey player on vacation. Vancouver selected the hockey player in the first round of the draft NHL-2014. Virtanen is the winner of the 2015 Youth World Championship with Team Canada. The forward scored five goals in 38 NHL games last season. In total, he has 100 points (55 + 45) in 317 matches in the regular league championships. In September 2021, Virtanen became a Spartak player. This season, the Canadian has played 36 games for the Red-and-Whites, scoring 16 (9 goals + 7 assists) points. He did not receive a call-up to Canada's Olympic Games, which will be held in Beijing February 4-20.
