Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United States Anatoly Antonov. File photoWASHINGTON, Jan 28 Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov called the State Department's statement about massive human rights violations in Chechnya part of the information war. The words of the diplomat are quoted on Facebook of the Russian embassy in Washington. In response to a request to comment on the statements of the State Department, Antonov said that in matters of human rights, the United States should improve its own «canons of democracy», and not engage in moralizing.
"We are considering claims and accusations, not supported by the same reliable data on the so-called "repressions" in Chechnya, as an attempt to interfere in Russian internal affairs and part of a frenzied information war against our country,» the diplomat said.
Earlier, the US State Department issued a statement expressing concern about reports of «abductions and arbitrary detentions» of dozens people by the authorities of Chechnya, he urged the Russian leadership not to condone such practices.
