MOSCOW, February 2 The Russian team will take third place in the medal standings of the Winter Olympic 2022 Games in Beijing, having won 10 gold medals, the statistics company Gracenote predicts. According to the updated forecast, Russian athletes will win 30 awards in the Chinese capital: 10 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze. Such a result in terms of the total number of awards exceeds the record of the USSR and Russia teams at the Winter Games. For Soviet athletes, the record for the total number of medals was the 1988 Games in Calgary, Canada, where the national team had 29 awards (13 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze). For the Russian team, the record was the 2014 Olympics in Sochi — 29 medals (11 gold, 9 silver and 9 bronze medals). Gracenote reduced the expected number of medals for the Russian team by eight compared to its October 27 forecast. At that time, the company believed that Russian athletes would win 38 awards: 14 gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze. The winner of the medal standings, according to Gracenote's forecast, should be the Norwegian team. It is expected that its athletes will win 21 gold medals in Beijing, as well as 13 silver and 10 bronze medals. The main stars in the Norwegian team should be biathletes Johannes Boe and Tiril Eckhoff, skiers Johannes Klebo and Teresa Johaug. It is expected that the most successful sports for the Russian team will be cross-country skiing and figure skating — 7 medals each, and with special attention they offer to follow skiers Alexander Bolshunov and Natalya Nepryaeva, figure skater Kamila Valieva and freestyler Maxim Burov. According to the AP forecast, Russian athletes will win five gold medals. Bolshunov, Burov, Valieva, sports couple Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov, as well as Russian figure skaters in team competitions will become Olympic champions.
