The European Court of Justice later ordered Poland, which failed to comply with its decision, to pay 500,000 euros a day as a fine, up to and including the cessation of production at the mine. However, Poland did not pay these funds. After many months of negotiations, the governments of the Czech Republic and Poland found a compromise solution on February 3 this year. It was reported that the Polish side, in an agreement on the conditions for the further operation of the Turov coal mine, undertook to complete the construction and ensure the operation of the underground wall, which should prevent further outflow of groundwater from the Czech Republic. Warsaw will also build an earthen rampart to protect the inhabitants of the nearest villages in the Liberec Region from noise, dust and other types of pollution. Poland also pledged to take measures to improve air conditions in the region. On February 4, Prague officially announced that it had withdrawn the lawsuit against Warsaw from the EU Court of Justice. Earlier on Tuesday, the European Commission announced that it had officially notified Poland, refusing to pay fines imposed by the EU Court for the Turov mine «that these amounts will be deducted from the financing of Warsaw by the European Union. The deductions relate to fines for the period from September 20 to October 19, 2021. It is expected that the amount will be about 15 million euros. The European Commission stressed that in this way they comply with the provisions of the financial regulation of the European Union, which provides for such deductions if the EU member state does not extinguish the fines imposed on its own.
The EU Court rejected the PGNiG claim to cancel the EC decision in the case against Gazprom
