The rules of the free program of figure skaters at the Games were changed because of Valieva

MOSCOW, February 14 The International Skating Union (ISU) has accepted the offer of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow 25 skaters to participate in the free program at the Beijing Olympics due to the situation with Russian Kamila Valieva, according to the ISU website. On Monday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) allowed Valieva to participate in the Olympics, but the trial in her case about a positive doping test will continue. The IOC asked the ISU «for reasons of fairness» to allow the skater who will be ranked 25th in the short program to the free skate if Valieva is among the top 24 athletes. As a result, in the first warm-up group before the free skate, the women will have seven skaters, in the next — six. In the women's single skating, 30 skaters start, five of them do not qualify for the free program. Competitions will be held on February 15 and 17.
