MOSCOW, February 25 Russia will be able to live without membership in the Council of Europe, as it was until 1996, Vladimir Dzhabarov, the first deputy head of the international committee of the Federation Council, told RIA Novosti on Friday. Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe had decided to exclude Russia from the ranks of the organization's members. «We lived before that, did not grieve, we will live (without membership in the Council of Europe),» the parliamentarian said. He noted that Russia has lived without participation in this organization since 1996. «I remember when Russia suspended its participation in the PACE, they tried to persuade us to return for half a year. They are bureaucrats, half of the people in Strasbourg are fed by the Council of Europe. The budget was not enough, our contribution was urgently needed,» the politician concluded.
