MOSCOW, February 26 Russian businessman Roman Abramovich handed over the management of the Chelsea football club «to the trustees of the London team's charitable foundation, according to the website of the London club.
"During almost 20 years of ownership "Chelsea" I have always made decisions based on the interests of the club. I remain committed to these values. That is why today I am handing over the management and care of "Chelsea" Trustees of the club's charitable foundation. I believe they are currently in the best position to look after the interests of the club, players, staff and fans", Abramovich is quoted on the "Chelsea website".
Abramovich acquired » Chelsea» in 2003 for about £140 million from Englishman Ken Bates. In 2012, the London club won the Champions League for the first time in its history. In 2021, Chelsea were able to repeat the success and again became the best club in Europe. Under Abramovich, the club won the English Championship five times, the FA Cup five times, and the Europa League twice (2013 and 2019).
