MOSCOW, Mar 10 The Diamond League General Assembly will consider the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the series tournaments next week in Belgrade, said the president of the World Athletics Association (World Athletics) Sebastian Coe. Earlier, on March 1, the World Athletics Council, amid the events in Ukraine, banned the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the World Athletics Series competitions, including the 2022 World Championships in Eugene (Oregon, USA), which will be held July 15-24, the World Indoor Championships, which will be held in Belgrade March 18-20. Since 2015, Russian athletes have been participating in competitions in a neutral status due to the deprivation of the All-Russian Federation of Athletics (ARAF) of its full-fledged status due to systematic cases of doping.
"Regarding one-day tournaments: we (on the advice of World Athletics – Ed.) discussed the exclusion of neutral athletes and Belarusian athletes. The leaders of these tournaments are aware of the decisions we made on March 1st and today. This issue will be considered at the Diamond League General Assembly in Belgrade next week,” Coe said at a press conference.
The World Athletics Council was held March 9-10.
