MOSCOW, 24 Mar. The Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has referred to the Ethics Council the issue of cooperation between the honorary president of the organization Rene Fasel and the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), according to the IIHF website. Earlier, the CEO of the 2022 World Championship Organizing Committee, Heikki Hietanen, said about the possible deprivation of Fasel of the post of honorary president of the IIHF. Prior to this, the press service of the KHL said that Fasel will be actively involved in solving strategic issues of the league's development. Fasel noted that he did not sign an official contract with the KHL. The IIHF Ethics Council is investigating whether Fasel violated the organization's code of ethics with his actions as honorary president. According to the statement of the international federation, the issue of how the behavior of the honorary president Fasel undermines the goals and objectives of the IIHF will be considered. Subsequently, the ethics council may refer the matter to the disciplinary committee for further consideration. Earlier, the IIHF council, due to the events in Ukraine, suspended the Russian and Belarusian national teams from international competitions for an indefinite period and deprived Omsk and Novosibirsk of the right to host the 2023 World Youth Championship. , which strongly disagrees with the IIHF decision and reserves the right to appeal it to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). IIHF has not yet begun to deprive Russia of the adult world championship – 2023, which is scheduled for May 5-21 in St. Petersburg.
