MOSCOW, Mar 26 Metallurg Magnitogorsk defeated Avangard Omsk «in the fifth match of the quarterfinal playoff series of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). The meeting, held in Magnitogorsk, ended with a score of 5:2 (1:1, 1:0, 3:1). Andrey Chibisov (4th minute), Philippe Maillet (37), Josh Curry (49), Brendan Lipsik (50) and Nikita Korostelev (59) scored among the winners. Alexey Bereglazov (19) and Timofey Davydov (60) scored goals for the guests. Metallurg took the lead in the series up to four wins — 3-2. The sixth meeting will take place on March 28 in Balashikha. In the first round, Metallurg defeated Barys (4-1) from Nur-Sultan. Then the Omsk club was Kazan «Ak Bars» (4-2). The team from Magnitogorsk is a two-time winner of the Gagarin Cup (2014, 2016), Avangard is the current owner of the trophy.
