The European Union has allowed the allocation of 17 billion euros from its funds to help refugees from Ukraine. Today, the Council of the European Union adopted the relevant legislative amendments. to solve the problem of the influx of Ukrainian refugees.
For example, ERDF resources intended for infrastructure projects can be reallocated to provide medical and educational services to Ukrainians in EU countries.
EU Member States will be able to use up to 9.5 billion euros under the 2022 tranche of REACT-EU — one of the largest public investment programs in the EU. As well as unallocated cohesion policy resources in the 2014-2020 budget period.
It is estimated that the expanded funding, the unblocking of the cohesion program and the REACT-EU tranche will allow almost 17 billion euros to be allocated for this purpose.
