MOSCOW, Apr 7 Hockey observer Mike Stevens shared his opinion about the Russian striker » Washington Capitals» Alexander Ovechkin.
"Ovechkin is the greatest sniper in NHL history. He managed to put an end to years of pointless talk, finally win the Stanley Cup and make hockey cool right in front of my eyes. He seems to set a new record every day. He not only scores a lot, but also gives almost as many assists. Some of the most successful playmakers haven't racked up that much. Reaching the 1,400 mark is not only an outstanding achievement for an amazing player, but also strong proof that Ovechkin is more than just the monotonous sniper that critics often portray him", Stevens is quoted by The Hockey Writers.
Ovechkin scored 1,401 points (773 goals, 628 goals) in 1,265 career NHL games against Tampa Bay tonight (4-3) against Tampa Bay. Earlier, the Russian striker took a clean 21st place in the list of NHL scorers of all time. Ovechkin is third on the league's all-time scorer list with 773 goals, trailing only Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).
