Russia retained membership in the International Luge Federation

MOSCOW, April 8, Oleg Bogatov. Congress of the International Luge Federation (FIL) ) retained membership in the organization of the Russian Luge Federation (FSSR), said FSSR President Natalia Garth. On March 2, the FIL Executive Committee decided to remove Russians from participating in international competitions and ban FIL tournaments in Russia. The FSSR filed an appeal, the FIL Arbitration Court granted it on Thursday – the FSSR representatives in the FIL commissions, sports functionaries and officials were restored in their rights, the ban on holding events sanctioned by the FIL in Russia was lifted. “Today there were very tough debates, but, fortunately , common sense nevertheless prevailed, – said Garth. – And the decision was made to maintain the membership of our federation in the FIL. “There were, of course, tough statements from a number of national federations – American, Canadian, Australian, Irish and New Zealand – that we are to blame for everything. But common sense still outweighed. And I was expelled from the members of the FIL executive committee, as well as three of our representatives in the working groups – Albert Demchenko, Alexander Shakhnazarov and Gennady Rodionov. But already on Monday we will file an appeal against this decision And given that we already have a positive experience, I really hope that we will be restored in our rights,” the head of the federation added.
