MOSCOW, April 8 Ukrainian chess players Anna and Maria Muzychuk will be expelled from the Lviv Regional Chess Federation (LOCHF) for refusing to sign an open letter calling for the removal of Russians and Belarusians from tournaments under the auspices of the World Chess Federation (FIDE). The chess players of the region appealed to the President of the Chess Federation of Ukraine Viktor Kapustin with a request to demand that FIDE remove all grandmasters and officials from Russia and Belarus because of the events in Ukraine. They also demanded that the head of FIDE, Arkady Dvorkovich, be dismissed.
"Presidium members, well-known grandmasters Anna Muzychuk and Maria Muzychuk did not sign or support this letter. In this regard, and in accordance with the decision of the presidium of April 4, 2022, the LOSHF ceases cooperation with chess players and begins the procedure for excluding them from the presidium and depriving them of membership in the federation", the letter says, published on the LOSHF Facebook page*.< /p>Maria Muzychuk is the 15th world champion in classical chess.
