File photoMOSCOW, Apr 9Edinburgh City Council Chairman Adam McVeigh sent a letter to Russian Ambassador to Britain Andrey Kelin demanding that the consul be immediately recalled from the city amid the situation in Ukraine, according to the council's website.
"Until Russia withdraws from Ukraine, I emphasize once again that we will not accept any invitations and any kind of cooperation, and I ask you to immediately recall the consul from our city — he will not happy in Edinburgh",” the letter says.
The message notes that at a meeting on March 17, the council members condemned the actions of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and decided to cut ties with the consul. Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal «the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.» For this, according to him, it is planned to carry out «demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine», to bring to justice all war criminals responsible for «bloody crimes against civilians» in Donbass. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the Armed Forces strike only at the military infrastructure and Ukrainian troops and, as of March 25, they have completed the main tasks of the first stage — they have significantly reduced the combat potential of Ukraine. The main goal in the Russian military department was called the liberation of Donbass.
