TSKHINVAL, April 10 Presidential elections will be held in South Ossetia on Sunday, polling stations in the republic and outside it will open at 08.00 local time (coincides with Moscow), and close at 20.00. Five candidates are running for the post of head of the republic. These are its current, fourth president, Anatoly Bibilov, as well as the leader of the Nykhas party, Alan Gagloev, former MP Dmitry Tasoev, MP Garry Muldarov, and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alexander Pliev.

Some time after the elections, a referendum is planned in the Transcaucasian republic on its unification with Russia. South Ossetian President Anatoly Bibilov told RIA Novosti earlier that his initiative to hold a popular vote on this issue is not connected with a desire to score points before the elections — this is a step towards the «strategic goal» of the people.
