Five-time Stanley Cup winner Lafleur dies


MOSCOW, Apr 22 Five-time Stanley Cup winner with NHL team (NHL) Montreal Canadiens Guy Lafleur has died at the age of 71, according to RDS. Lafleur battled lung cancer for several years. 1971 NHL Entry Draft, 1st overall. He is a three-time winner of the Art Ross Trophy and the Lester Pearson Award (now the Ted Lindsay Award), twice the Hart Trophy and once the Conn Smythe Trophy. In total, Lafleur played 961 games for Montreal. He is the club's all-time leading scorer with 1246 points (518 goals + 728 assists). He also played for the New York Rangers and Quebec Nordiques, and ended his career as a striker in 1991. As part of the Canadian team, he is the owner and finalist of the Canada Cup. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988 and into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1996.
