Fury crushed the offender Povetkin. But we still won’t see a super fight with Usyk

Ivan OrekhovCorrespondent SportAll materialsIt looks like the Gypsy King really ended his career. It was a glorious hunt! Alcohol and drug addiction, ongoing mental problems and an absolute misunderstanding of his future… Just a few years ago, mired in a swamp of depression and plump beyond recognition, Tyson Fury fell to the very bottom. And now, for a week now, he's been talking about ending his career as the undefeated, greatest heavyweight in boxing history. His phenomenon is a mystery. How can a disproportionate body and clumsy movements hide such strength, a fighting mind and a strong chin? As the athlete says, no one can overcome a «carcass 206 centimeters tall and weighing 122 kg» that moves like a middleweight. 33 fighters fought over the answer. Dillian Whyte is 34th.

Fury vs. White boxing fight poster As insignificant as Dillian Whyte's role in the promotion of the fight seemed, the Briton was so memorable in the ring. The power of the mandatory challenger, who quite recently confidently dealt with our Alexander Povetkin, has evaporated somewhere. White did not reach Fury, was in no hurry to force things, although he was outright losing on points. Dillian paid the price for this: a frankly boring “heavyweight” fight at the London “Wembley”, which was not even close to the confrontation between Fury and Deontay Wilder, reached the sixth round, in which the underdog missed the hardest blow. White's third defeat is the third defeat after the uppercut. But Fury still has a zero in the «defeat» column. And apparently, the record of the Gypsy King will not change: immediately after the 32nd victory, the Briton once again announced (or hinted) about his retirement:

"I promised my wife that I would not return to the ring after 14 years of performances. I love you fans. Thank you, I enjoyed beating at "Wembley"! And thanks to the UK for the warm welcome. I have to be a man of my word — I guess that's all. This could be the Gypsy King's last outing!"

Can Fury hold off a fight against UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou for a little longer? It's not clear yet. The fight, devoid of intrigue, is still liked only by the MMA star, who, because of the thirst for big checks, goes into open confrontation with the leadership of the promotion. Fury himself speaks of a potential meeting at great length. No specifics, just “something special” is waiting for us. And if the failure of the fight against Ngannou is unlikely to upset the majority of fans, then we will have to be sad for more than one year about the failed confrontation between the British and the Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk. Two undefeated boxers with five (!) Belts for two (WBA Super, WBO, IBF and IBO titles are owned by Usyk, WBC by Fury) would definitely give us an epic felling with millions of sales of paid broadcasts, a full house at the stadium and a long, long wait, which would bring the interest of the fans to the maximum. But this is already a fantasy. We are waiting for Usyk's rematch against Anthony Joshua. And we wish Fury to find himself outside of sports and continue to delight the fans (and the media) with his funny phrases and outrageous antics.
