The Russian Football Union (RFU) expressed its categorical disagreement with decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to remove Russian clubs and teams from participating in tournaments under the auspices of the organization in the 2022/23 season, the Russian side did not rule out that it would appeal the new sanctions to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). “On May 2, UEFA announced a series of decisions by the executive committee of the union banning the participation of Russian clubs and teams in competitions under the auspices of the organization in the 2022/23 season in all types of football.In addition, the application declaring Russia's interest in hosting the European Championship in 2028 or 2032 was rejected. the football union expresses its categorical disagreement with the decisions taken by the UEFA executive committee.The RFU will continue to protect its own interests in the framework of cases already pending in the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne and reserves the right to submit new applications,” the press service of the RFU told reporters. On Monday, the UEFA executive committee decided not to allow Russian football clubs to compete in European competitions in the 2022/23 season, and the Russian team to play in the League of Nations. It was also decided to remove the Russian youth team from participation in the European Championship. The women's team will not play in the Euro 2022 finals and 2023 World Cup qualification, and Russia's bid to host the European Championships in 2028 or 2032 has been rejected.
