Karjakin announced when he will file an appeal against his disqualification with CAS

MOSCOW, May 6, Sergey Fuks. Russian chess player Sergey Karyakin said that plans to file an appeal against his disqualification with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne next week. On Friday, the Appeal Chamber of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) Commission on Ethics and Discipline rejected the appeal of Russian chess player Sergey Karyakin against his six-month suspension. It is noted that now Karjakin can appeal his suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within 21 days after the announcement of the decision. «It was an expected decision, I had no reason to believe that it would be otherwise. There were almost only Europeans, and it was clear what decision they would make.Yes, we will apply to CAS, we already have an official paper with a refusal, respectively, there is every reason to go to CAS.And then it will be clear how the situation will develop, how good we will be lawyers. There is not much time left before the Candidates Tournament, so I will file an appeal in the near future so that the court has time to consider the case. I think I will file it next week,» Karjakin said. Karjakin was disqualified in March after he published in his social networks an open letter in support of the policy of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the special operation in Ukraine. Due to the disqualification, Karjakin lost the opportunity to play at the Candidates Tournament from June 16 to July 7, the winner of which will fight for the world chess crown with the current champion Norwegian Magnus Carlsen.
