Archival photoTIRASPOL, May 6.The next round of negotiations between representatives of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and Moldova may take place at the end of May, the head of the PMR Vadim Krasnoselsky said on Friday. “Both the Moldovan and Pridnestrovian sides will sit down for the negotiating table and continue the dialogue. I'm talking about cautious optimism,” the head of the PMR said. Chisinau and Tiraspol as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE as mediators, the European Union and USA – as observers. The only round of negotiations in the 5+2 format in 2019 took place in Bratislava on 9 and 10 October. However, the document following the results of the negotiations was not agreed upon and signed. During 2020 and 2021, it was not possible to hold a single meeting in this format. Transnistria, 60% of whose inhabitants are Russians and Ukrainians, sought secession from Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing that Moldova would join Romania on the wave of nationalism. In 1992, after a failed attempt by the Moldovan authorities to solve the problem by force, Pridnestrovie became virtually a territory not controlled by Chisinau.
