Celebrating the anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. File photoDERAA (Syria), May 8.Festive events dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War were held in the cities of Es-Suwayda and Derra in the south of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR), representatives of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria (CPVS) visited the event as guests of honor during led by the deputy head of the Central Military Headquarters, Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev. More than a hundred people took part in the events. Schoolchildren of As-Suwayda and Derra, together with adults wearing St. George ribbons and with portraits of their grandfathers and great-grandfathers, sang songs of the war years and modern patriotic works, and also read poems about the war, homeland. «In Es-Suwayda, thanks to our fellow activists, a festive concert was held dedicated to the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Many presented (photos) of their ancestors who took an active part in the war. It is nice that even here, in a distant land, they remember their ancestors, who contributed to our great victory, «- Oleg Zhuravlev told reporters, adding that such events in Syria are held «quite regularly: in Derra, Damascus, Aleppo, Tartus.» and local teachers of the Russian language.»Today we celebrate Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, the day when the troops of the Soviet Union defeated fascism. Every year we hold this event so that our children and grandchildren know the history of our country, the history of the world in general,» Elena Fahd, chairman of the Association of Compatriots in the city of Es-Suweida «Slavyanka», told RIA Novosti. According to her, children also took part in the event for the first time from Arab families.» This year we are spending together with Arab children who are learning Russian. They are very interested in the history and culture of Russia, and therefore we try to involve them in our events. In our city, we first attracted them,» said Fahd. She noted that such events «are very important for raising children not only in Russia and in the countries of the former Soviet Union, but also in other countries, so that children know the history of the world, so that they took it all as it should be, and not as it happened and from just anyone.» As part of the events in both cities, humanitarian aid was also distributed in the form of food kits.
