A referendum on the accession of South Ossetia to Russia will take place, acting president of the republic Anatoly Bibilov told RIA Novosti after he recognized the victory of his opponent Alan Gagloev in the second round of elections for the head of the republic. «Referendum will be,” he said. Bibilov noted that all the documents for the referendum have been collected and submitted to the Central Election Commission. .According to the CEC of South Ossetia, after processing 18% of the protocols, in the second round Gagloev is gaining 59.22% of the vote, and Bibilov — 37%. Bibilov has already admitted defeat in the elections and wished Gagloev successful work. Earlier, South Ossetia announced that some time after the presidential elections, a referendum on its unification with Russia was planned in the republic. Bibilov called unification the «strategic goal» of the people of South Ossetia.
