Japan imposes sanctions against 140 people from Russia, DPR and LPR

File photoTOKYO, May 10.In light of the events in Ukraine, Japan is imposing new sanctions against 140 people from Russia, the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Lugansk People's Republic (LPR), including Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Rashid Nurgaliev and relatives of businessman Gennady Timchenko, as well as against 71 Russian company. The updated sanctions list was published on the website of the Japanese Foreign Ministry. Initially, it was reported that sanctions were imposed against 133 people from the Russian Federation, the LPR and the DPR. According to the full lists, the total number is 141, eight — for the Russian Federation, 133 — for the LPR and the DPR. The list for the LPR and the DPR also includes representatives of the leadership of the republics, including Ruslan Dubovsky. The assets of these persons in Japan, if detected, will be frozen. In addition, a ban is introduced on financial transactions with these persons, including the conclusion of deposit or loan agreements. A ban is also introduced on the export of goods and transactions for 71 Russian companies. Among them, in particular, «Almaz-Antey», VNII «ETALON», «Inteltech» and others. In addition, the list includes the Tactical Missiles Corporation, as well as research institutes and technical bureaus specializing in communications. To date, Japan has imposed several packages of sanctions against Russia in light of the events in Ukraine. In particular, it excluded Russia from the most favored nation trade regime and imposed a ban on the export of more than 300 goods to Russia, including semiconductors, radars, sensors, lasers and other equipment, as well as luxury cars and luxury goods. It also banned the import of 38 types of goods from Russia — veneer, wood chips, cars and motorcycles, beer, wine, vodka and others. In addition, sanctions were imposed against nine of Russia's largest banks.
