The incident occurred on April 8 during the NBA regular season match between Dallas and Portland. An unfamiliar man led the girl out of the arena before the big break. She was found in a motel in Oklahoma 11 days after the kidnapping. It is reported that the teenager fell into the hands of traffickers and was involved in sex slavery. Parents identified their daughter from photographs on a sex service ad site. According to lawyer Zeke Fortenberry, the girl's father reported her missing to the police during the game, but law enforcement officers sent the man to file a complaint in his hometown, which is located near Dallas. There he was told that the local police could not investigate the incident because it happened in Dallas. Then the father turned to the anti-trafficking agency in Houston.
