Archival photoRUBEZHNOE (LPR), May 13.Nine-year-old twin sisters Vika and Valeria in the city of Rubezhnoye in the LPR lost their home due to a Ukrainian shell hit and have been living with their parents in one of the bomb shelters for two months, RIA Novosti correspondent reports. Parents cannot take their children out of the city: out of fear, the girls refuse to leave the basement. “Tomorrow, at 11:30 am, exactly two months since we lost our house and live in a bomb shelter,” Olga, mother of the girls, told RIA Novosti. The shelter is equipped in the basement of one of the city's educational institutions: there is still an advertisement for karate classes and the slogan «Learn to shoot straight!» The people living in the shelter sleep on chairs and tables pushed up to each other, covered with blankets that they brought from home. They eat food from humanitarian aid, which is cooked in the yard over fires. The basement is cold even during the day: when people talk, steam comes out of the mouth. At night, people sleep in outerwear, cuddling up to each other. Two months ago, the family of Vika and Lera were at home, the girls were playing, their parents were doing housework, when a shell hit the house. «It was very scary. Very scary. We grabbed the things we had and ran to the basement,» says Olga. The girls are still so terrified that they refuse to go out of the basement into the courtyard of the building. “At first Vika went out, and Lera was sitting in the building. Then for some reason they changed — now Vika is afraid,” their mother says. Because of this, they still cannot evacuate from Rubizhne. However, the road from the city is still dangerous — shells continue to explode on it.Commandant: AFU soldiers are trying to leave Rubizhne under the guise of refugees Rubizhne is part of the Severodonetsk-Lisichansk agglomeration, its population before the outbreak of hostilities exceeded 50 thousand people.
