Iran plans to exchange Russian steel for auto parts

File photoMOSCOW, May 27Iran and Russia may introduce barter trade that would allow Tehran to import steel and Moscow to import auto parts and gas turbines, Press TV reported, citing Iran's Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Rezu Fatemi Amina. As noted, on the sidelines of the meeting of the permanent bilateral commission on trade and economic cooperation, the minister said that both states agreed to introduce barter trade for certain categories of goods, including Russian steel. According to him, Iran needs to import raw materials for the metallurgical and mining sectors. Fatemi Amina stressed that Tehran will also need zinc, lead, and aluminum to meet domestic demand. The minister added that in exchange for Russian metallurgical products, his country can export car parts and gas turbines. Some Iranian companies have already signed contracts for the supply and repair of gas turbines for Russian power plants, he concluded. Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak arrived in Iran and took part in a trade forum between the two countries.The REC said that Iran is ready to supply its goods to Russia
