Finnish national team wins World Ice Hockey Championship


MOSCOW, May 29. The Finnish team defeated the Canadian team in overtime in final match of the home ice hockey world championship. The main time of the meeting in Tampere ended with the score 3:3 (0:0, 0:1, 3:2). As part of the hosts, Mikael Granlund scored a double (45th and 46th minutes), another goal was scored by Yoel Army (55). The Canadians scored Dylan Cozens (25), Zach Whitecloud (58) and Maxime Comtua (59). Sakari Manninen (67) scored the winning goal in overtime. The Finnish national team became world champions for the fourth time in history. Finns are current Olympic champions. The leaders in the number of victories at the world championships are the teams of Canada and Russia/USSR (27 titles each). The teams of Canada and Finland played in the final of the world championship for the third time in a row. Last year, the Canadians won in overtime — 3:2, in 2020 the tournament was not held due to the pandemic, in 2019 the Finns won with a score of 3:1.
