On May 27, the International Ice Hockey Federation refused the Russian national teams and Belarus in participation in the 2023 World Championship. «If the situation between Russia and Ukraine does not change in the near future, the Russian national hockey team will be forced to miss the next season in all competitions under the auspices of the IIHF,» Tardif said. In February, the IIHF board suspended the Russian national teams and Belarus from international competitions for an indefinite period. The teams are missing out on the 2022 World Championship, which is taking place in Finland. Also, the IIHF has deprived Russia of the right to host the 2023 Youth World Championship in Omsk and Novosibirsk, as well as the 2023 Adult World Championship, which was supposed to be hosted by St. Petersburg.
