EW. Archival photoMOSCOW, May 31.The electronic warfare (EW) system of the Russian Armed Forces jammed a NATO drone (UAV) that was trying to conduct reconnaissance in the interests of Ukraine over the Black Sea, an informed source told RIA Novosti.
"Russian electronic warfare systems suppressed a NATO strategic drone over the Black Sea, which approached the coast of Crimea. Potentially, the device was trying to conduct reconnaissance of Russian facilities and forces in the interests of the Ukrainian troops,» the agency's interlocutor said.
He noted that «electronic warfare systems, as a result of combined interference with the radio technical sensors of the device, made his mission meaningless.» The source did not disclose other details of the episode. The Russian army has a wide range of electronic warfare systems. Such complexes as Krasukha, Moskva, Murmansk-BN, Borisoglebsk and many others are in service. Earlier, a RIA Novosti source in the power structures of Crimea reported that Russian EW systems, in particular, work on NATO ships, trying to approach the coast of the peninsula for reconnaissance. As a result, their reconnaissance equipment cannot work as intended. The media, citing claims by Ukrainian militants, reported that due to the operation of Russian electronic warfare systems on the front line, it is impossible to use mobile phones.
